Jonny Gal­lant, Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor at Al­ban Books, has picked his favourite Christ­mas books for the year. He told us that par­tic­u­lar high­lights of the year have in­cluded ti­tles by Pope Fran­cis in­clud­ing Morn­ing Hom­i­lies I, Morn­ing Hom­i­lies II and Fam­ily and Life: Pas­toral Re­flec­tion.

A Year with Pope Fran­cis on the Fam­ily: Daily Reflections edited by Al­berto Rossa con­tains reflections and quo­ta­tions pri­mar­ily on the fam­ily and fam­ily life for each day of the year, taken from the writ­ings and talks of Pope Fran­cis, in a pocket-sized book. Top­ics range from Je­sus, Mary, and Joseph, the sacra­ment of mar­riage, suf­fer­ing and fam­ily bur­dens, women, moth­er­hood, to fam­ily val­ues and fam­ily as do­mes­tic church.

Fly While You Still Have Wings: And Other Lessons My Re­silient Mother Gave Me

Good­ness and Light: Read­ings for Ad­vent and Christ­mas edited by Michael Leach, James Keane, Doris Goodnough, has 45 read­ings for Christ­mas and Ad­vent. Writ­ers in­clude: Maya An­gelou, Kath­leen Nor­ris, Fred­er­ick Buech­ner, Pope Fran­cis, Rowan Wil­liams, James Martin, Joyce Rupp, Phyl­lis Tickle, Mar­i­anne Wil­liamson and Richard Rohr.

Jonny said they’ve also en­joyed Joyce Rupp’s book– a heart­felt mem­oir about her mother Hilda’s fi­nal years.
