Voice from the porch

- If you have a story for Craigie email: craigie@thecourier.co.uk

“I have suffered hearing loss of late and now wear a hearing-aid,” writes a Craigie reader. “As my hearing was always excellent up into my seventies, I take badly with having to strain to hear.

“My wife has a clear, carrying voice, but her favoured spot when not working is our back porch, where she happily pursues her hobbies of crosswords, reading and tapestry.

“However, she is ensconced behind a closed door; I can see her, but I cannot hear her clearly when she sees or hears me in the kitchen and wishes to speak to me.

“I know she has said something, but I am not sure exactly what. I then have to drop what I am doing, go over to the porch door, open it and ask her to repeat what she has just said.

“Can any reader suggest a solution to my dilemma? At the moment, my reactions can vary from a sigh to downright testiness, not conducive to good marital relations!”
