Robson and Moore keep hopes alive
Laura Robson’s hopes of playing in next week’s US Open are still intact after she made it through the first round of qualifying.
The 22-year-old, who was handed a wild card into the qualifying draw, is languishing at 247 in the world as she has struggled on her comeback from two wrist surgeries, but progressed past Su Jeong Jang 6-3 6-2.
Robson next plays world No 142 Isabella Shinikova.
There was more British success when Tara Moore also made it through.
The 24-year-old, currently ranked 171, won 6-4 6-3 against Tereza Mrdeza to set up a meeting with Ipek Soylu.
