Petrie under no illusions but relishing challenge

-

When Stewart Petrie took over as boss at Montrose, anyone willing to wager that the Angus club would finish the season with a great chance of making the promotion play-offs would probably have been laughed out of a bookies.

Back in December when he was appointed, the Gable Endies were rock bottom of League 2 and in dire straits.

Now, Montrose have moved up into fourth place following last week’s 1-0 win at Berwick.

This afternoon they are on the road again to Annan, who sit in third just one point ahead of Petrie’s men.

The Links Park manager said: “We played well in the first half last week at Berwick against a side fighting for their lives at the moment.

“We scored a fine goal through Chris Templeman, who is in a good run of form just now.

“We didn’t play as well in the second half but the boys did really well again to take another three points.

“We also kept a clean sheet, our second in a row, which is always pleasing.

“The lads deserve enormous credit for taking us up into promotion playoff contention and the challenge now is to stay there.

“We only have two games left and it is all to play for.

“We have a good away record but we are under no illusions about how tough it will be at Annan.

“However, it is a challenge we look forward to.”
