“The candlewick factory mentioned by Alison King on Wednesday was Douglas Fraser & Company Ltd.,” emails Bradley Borland of Kinfauns, Perth.

“I recall supplying them from McGregor & Balfour of Loons Road in Dundee who were mill furnishers to the flax, cotton and jute mills all over the UK and worldwide.

“The factory was know locally as the ‘baffie factory’ owing to the type of shoes produced among their products.”
