Golf has never seen any­thing like it – a bomb in the Scot­tish am­a­teur cham­pi­onship at Carnoustie. In the first round, Kirk­in­til­loch golfer Jim Hay, who is known for his un­ortho­dox left hand down grip, helped to write a page in the his­tory book af­ter driv­ing into a bunker at the 14th hole. Along with his cad­die, he spot­ted the tail of a bomb in the sand. At first he took it to be an old smoke bomb and played his ball out of the bunker. In fact, it was a three-inch un­ex­ploded mor­tar bomb.
