Fifers must cut out the mistakes: Young

East Fife head to Airdrie this afternoon with manager Darren Young determined that the Bayview men stop being their own worst enemy.

Young’s side went down 1-0 to Queen’s Park last weekend. However the result should have been very different.

He explained: “We will play worse in games and win them.

“We had over 60% of the possession and to be honest we never looked like losing a goal. However we missed chances and then gave away a goal and that was that.

“When I talk about chances there was a good number of one-on-ones with their goalkeeper which were not taken.

“To make matters worse their goal came about from a short pass-back that ended with a penalty being conceded.

“We really shot ourselves in the foot and it has to stop. Apart from the display in the Raith game there has been plenty to be positive about but there would be even more positivity about if we took our chances.”

Young added: “Hopefully we can put it right against Airdrie. As a club they are going through a difficult period but they have picked up some good results with a win at Albion Rovers and then a success over Alloa in their last home game.

“It will be tough to get the win but we can make it easier for us if we do the right things.”

Kevin Smith is the only absentee from the squad.
