Testing weekend for local outfits

-

National leagues and first round Scottish Cup ties make for a testing weekend as the top tier clubs get to grips with their respective campaigns.

Defending champions Edinburgh University and perennial challengers Clydesdale Western were the high scorers in week one with Grove Menzieshill and MJV Wanderers sharing the spoils in last week’s derby thriller.

After shipping seven on their return to the Premiership, Grange could well be in for another roasting as Grove vent their frustrations at having already dropped two points.

Wanderers will be looking for a repeat of last week’s performance when Hillhead come calling at Dalnacraig, however full points are not a given as the Glasgow outfit only just lost out to the powerful Wildcats in their opener.

Tomorrow, Wanderers welcome MCCW II while the Grovies are back in the capital for their Cup tie against CALA.

Dundee University make their Division 2 entrance at home to Erskine Stewart’s Melville, but while Grove’s second string have no league game they play host to Highland in tomorrow’s cup clash.

In Championship 2 Stirling Wanderers go head to head with Kinross, Perthshire face the long haul to Ayr and the university’s second strings from Dundee and St Andrews entertain Strathclyde and ESM II, respectively.

Midland matches are under way in both divisions with Madras, Monarchs and Perthshire II doubling up their weekend action with first round opposing in the District Cup.
