Rep ready for a merry dance

The Courier & Advertiser (Angus and The Mearns Edition) - - NEWS -

Dundee’s Scottish Dance Theatre held one of its final rehearsals before tonight’s performance of the crirically acclaimed spectacle Yama at the Dundee Rep Theatre.

Described as one of the company’s most visually striking shows, the performance is a collaboration between choreographer Damien Jalet and American artist Jim Hodges.

Yama, meaning mountain in Japanese, takes inspiration from pagan and animist rituals, in particular those practised by Japanese monks called Yamabushi in the region devastated by the 2011 tsunami and nuclear catastrophe.

Near naked performers move in unison, disappearing and reappearing through a specially created set.

Yama has proved to be an international hit for Scottish Dance Theatre, wowing audiences across Europe.

Tonight’s performance will start at 8pm.
