Bank charged over loan

Lawyers for Bar­clays Bank have ap­peared in court where it faces a charge of un­law­ful fi­nan­cial as­sis­tance in con­nec­tion with a three bil­lion US dol­lar (£2.2 bil­lion) loan given to the State of Qatar.

Bar­clays Bank Plc has been charged by the Se­ri­ous Fraud Of­fice (SFO) with un­law­ful fi­nan­cial as­sis­tance con­trary to s151(1) and (3) of the Com­pa­nies Act 1985.
