East Fife put faith in teens

East Fife have promoted teenagers Josh Mcconville and Liam Newton to their first team squad for the new season after impressing with their under-20 side.

Mcconville, 17, joined the Methil side from Fife Elite FA last summer and made his first team debut in a Challenge Cup tie against Stirling Albion last August.

Newtown moved to the Fifers last November with the 18-year-old joining their youth squad after starring for Kennoway Star Hearts and also played for the national schoolboy’s side in a Centenary Shield game against Northern Ireland in March.

Chairman Jim Stevenson is delighted that the investment the club has made in developing talent has paid off.

He said: “It demonstrates that the pathway we have put in place is working.”
