Warn­ing over pair pos­ing as po­lice­men to steal cars for sale

Two men pos­ing as po­lice of­fi­cers have been steal­ing cars in Glas­gow and cen­tral Scot­land.

De­tec­tives are warn­ing peo­ple to be on their guard af­ter a num­ber of in­ci­dents in which peo­ple who are try­ing to sell cars on Gumtree are con­tacted by in­ter­ested buy­ers who then ar­range to meet them.

At the time of the meet­ing, two men claim­ing to be plain­clothes of­fi­cers ar­rive and steal the car.

One in­ci­dent hap­pened on Wed­nes­day at around 8.40pm at Glas­gow Cen­tral Mosque in the Gor­bals area of the city.

De­tec­tives are also in­ves­ti­gat­ing a sec­ond in­ci­dent in the south side of Glas­gow on Thurs­day which is be­lieved to be linked to the one at the mosque.

The first sus­pect is de­scribed as in his mid to late-twen­ties, 5ft 8in, of medium to stocky build, with a pale com­plex­ion and short dark brown hair. He was wear­ing G Star jeans and a dark wa­ter­proof jacket.

The sec­ond man is de­scribed as around 6ft, of slim build, with a pale com­plex­ion and short red hair, and he was wear­ing black Nike trousers.

Both men had po­lice equip­ment in­clud­ing hand­cuffs and covert har­nesses.
