We need EU deal for all Britain

The Courier & Advertiser (Dundee Edition) - - COMMENT -

Sir, - The position of the SNP as regards the EU is illogical. I respect those in the SNP who voted to leave the EU as they obviously believe in Scotland being a truly independent country.

However, Nicola Sturgeon has embraced the EU as a means of opposing Westminster.

Her use of terms like “hard” and “soft” brexit do not reflect reality.

We all knew what the EU referendum was about. It involved leaving things like the single market, the customs union and the European Court of Justice.

People like Ms Sturgeon, who argued for Remain, made this perfectly clear at the time. Since the referendum, EU officials have also made this clear.

What we really need after leaving is a good

trade deal. What is good for the UK as a whole will be good for Scotland.

The idea that the Conservatives will try to negotiate a poor deal for Scotland is preposterous.

Scottish MPs should support the UK Government to ensure a good deal for us all rather than try to torpedo the talks.

It is far from clear that we can trust SNP MPs to act in a constructive way at Westminster. Michael Vansittart. 6 The Cribbs, St Monans.
