A block of flats in Perth was cordoned off last night after a man was reportedly stabbed in broad daylight.

Residents in the Rannoch Road area said the man was seen with “blood spurting from his arm” following an incident at around 2.30pm on Friday.

By early evening, police could still be seen guarding the entrance to a top floor flat.

The common stairwell of the block was cordoned off but blood visible on the steps.

A trail of blood led from the block to a neighbouring building and carried on up to the second floor, streaking the walls of the stairwell.

One woman, who did not want to be identified, said she had been forced to tell her young children that someone had suffered a nosebleed to avoid scaring them.

She said: “Someone told me that someone had been stabbed – there was blood all over the street.

“It doesn’t surprise me at all. The children are used to it but I had to tell them it was someone with a bleeding nose.”

Another woman told how she had tried to help the man staunch the flow of blood.

She said: “I tried to help him by giving him a towel. He’d lost a lot of blood – he’s been slashed across the main artery in his arm and blood was spurting everywhere.”

Another local man, who did not want to give his name, said he heard a fight had broken out, resulting in the injuries.

Police Scotland refused to be drawn on the nature of the incident, confirming only that it was “ongoing”.

A spokeswoman said: “About 2.30pm today Police Scotland Tayside Division attended at an address in Rannoch Road, Perth, after reports of a disturbance.

“Police can confirm that one person attended hospital for treatment in relation to the incident and inquiries are currently ongoing.

“Officers are keen to speak to any persons who have witnessed the incident.

“Police Scotland would like to stress that this was an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the wider public.”
