“Iwantto create mementos of Dundee for people to share, spread the love and make others smile.

Postcards inspired by the delights of Dundee will be launched today, with a number hidden in public places for people to take for free.

Local artist Louise Kirby said she created her Dundee Delights series of cards to show off all the good things of which the city can be proud.

Her work will be left at locations throughout today for people to pick up, in the hopes they feel encouraged to use “snail mail” to contact loved ones.

Each postcard features an artistic impression of famous Dundee sights, including Maggie’s Centre, Broughty Ferry Castle, McManus Galleries and the Steeple penguins.

Louise has used the colour Marrs Green, recently named the “world’s favourite colour” and after Dundee woman Annie Marrs, who selected the hue for a survey after being reminded of the River Tay.

Louise will be actively looking for people who find her work to get in touch via social media, using the hashtag #Dundeedelights, to let her know where they have sent their postcards.

She said: “I want to create mementos of Dundee for people to share, spread the love and make others smile.

“I love snail mail and believe it’s important to say ‘hello’ and keep in touch rather than just texting or emailing. I love getting something nice in the post rather than the bills and junk mail.”

As well as being left at spots around Dundee today, Louise’s work will go on sale at art shops including Pretty Fly in Broughty Ferry and the DCA shop.

Lewis Smith, retail manager at Dundee Contemporary Arts, said: “Louise has been a DCA Shop stockist for a number of years and her beautifully illustrated cards are always highly sought after by our customers.

“We’re delighted to see the DCA rendered in her inimitable style as part of her new Dundee Delights collection and can’t wait to have these new designs on our shelves.”

The postcards will also be available for sale on Louise’s personal website.
