Dozing death crash driver jailed
A van driver was jailed for four years yesterday after killing a motorist when he fell asleep at the wheel and ploughed into stationary traffic.
Ion Rusu momentarily dozed off before colliding with a Honda Civic being driven by Marek Majewski which was shunted into the back of a lorry.
Farm worker Mr Majewski, 25, died following the collision near the Keir roundabout at Dunblane on the southbound A9 Perth to Glasgow road and a passenger in his car was injured.
Judge Graham Buchanan QC told Rusu, 41, at the High Court in Edinburgh: “There is no doubt that this tragic accident occurred because you fell asleep at the wheel of your van.”
He also ordered that Rusu be disqualified from driving for six years and until he passes an extended driving test.
Romanian Rusu had earlier admitted causing Mr Majewski’s death on April 20.
