Fife’s finest food and drink will be catch of the day for fes­ti­val

The aroma of fine food will lure thou­sands of vis­i­tors to an East Neuk har­bour this week­end.

Crail Food Fes­ti­val prom­ises a ban­quet for food and drink lovers from Fri­day to Sun­day.

Last year the event drew 5,000 peo­ple and this year it has been ex­tended from two to three days.

Fi­nal prepa­ra­tions are un­der way for the fes­tiv­i­ties, which will in­clude a choco­late larder, a se­ries of street food pop-ups and a pro­duc­ers’ mar­ket.

Sev­eral top chefs, in­clud­ing MasterChef win­ner Jamie Scott, of Rocca St An­drews, and Miche­lin-starred Ge­of­frey Smed­dle, will demon­strate their skills.

The fes­ti­val is in its fifth year and event manager Gra­ham An­der­son said some new com­pa­nies have joined some of Fife’s favourite pro­duc­ers on the line-up.

He said: “We would like ev­ery­one to come along and find out what’s great about our lo­cal pro­duce. As Scot­land cel­e­brates the Year of Food and Drink, the Crail Food Fes­ti­val is truly of­fer­ing a ban­quet for peo­ple of all ages.”

More than 80 food and drink firms will take part and events in­clude a food and drink em­po­rium, a cook­ery theatre, work­shops and food-themed ac­tiv­i­ties for chil­dren, in­clud­ing bis­cuit-ic­ing. Sun­day will see the har­bour fes­ti­val, when shell­fish, smok­ies and a hog roast will be washed down with craft beer and home­made lemon­ade.
