Douglas admits to being ‘too honest’

-

Rab Douglas wasn’t a player to rant and rave in a dressing room for the sake of it – but he made his point when the time was right.

And if there’s one word that will define his new Courier column, it would be “honesty”.

“I’m looking forward to getting my opinion across,” Douglas said.

“I was always honest after a game and I’ll be the same in the column. People might not agree but that’s the beauty of football.

“My problem has been I’ve been too honest sometimes!”

Douglas can understand why the excitement ahead of the new Scottish Premiership season has reached a level not known for a generation.

“There’s no doubt it’s going to be a stronger league,” he said. “Rangers are coming up and Brendan Rodgers will be a breath of fresh air.

“I’m sure he’s not come up here to go through the motions. His reputation is at stake.

“I seem to remember that when I was at Leicester John Terry had tipped them off about Brendan Rodgers. He’d been impressed with him when he was a youth coach at Chelsea.

“And, I think that if Celtic manage to get to the Champions League group stages there might be a few more transfers coming in.”
