Victim attacked with table leg in his own home in row over debt

-

A Hill of Beath man went to a house in the early hours of the morning demanding money he claimed was owed to him.

Jordan Henderson, 21, of Allan Park, admitted on December 31 at another address on the street behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by entering uninvited, throwing and damaging items and behaving in an aggressive manner to the occupants.

He further admitted assaulting Ciaran Brown by knocking him to the ground and repeatedly striking him on the head and body with a piece of wood to his injury.

Depute fiscal Gavin Whyte said the victim’s mother heard loud knocking at her door at around 3am. When she answered she found Henderson and another man standing there. They went in and Henderson started demanding £150 he said he was owed.

He picked up a wooden table leg and started waving it menacingly in the woman’s face.

Henderson and the other man remained in the house for 30 minutes until the woman’s son came downstairs. He was then assaulted by Henderson who “struck him repeatedly on the back of the head with the table leg”, said the depute fiscal.

The victim required four stitches in a head wound and also sustained bruising.

Defence solicitor James Moncrieff said his client was “remorseful” and had described his own actions as “stupid” and “acting like an idiot”.

Sheriff Craig McSherry said: “This is an offence which used to be known in Scotland as ‘hamesucking’, an assault carried out on somebody else’s property.”

He ordered Henderson to do 200 hours of unpaid work and pay £300 compensation.
