St Johnstone to take on Man City
St Johnstone have accepted a shock approach from Manchester City to take on Pep Guardiola’s men in a glamour closed-doors friendly next week.
Tommy Wright will take his Perth side south for Wednesday’s game after new Blues boss Guardiola decided he wanted to add another fixture to their preseason schedule.
It will be City’s first team Saints face, including the likes of Sergio Aguero, who scored against Borussia Dortmund yesterday.
Wright’s connections with the former Premier League champions played a part in making the match happen, and the Northern Irishman didn’t think twice about accepting the challenge.
Wright said: “It is a fantastic opportunity for the players. Let’s face it, we will never get a chance to play Manchester City in a major competition as a group.
“And playing a Pep Guardiola team certainly wasn’t part of my plans for this season!
“It was an invitation we simply couldn’t turn down. It will be a great experience for us. We can only benefit from it,” he added.
“I believe Pep wanted another game in their schedule after the match planned with Manchester United in China had to be called off because of the weather.”
