Konta targets WTA Finals

-

British No 1 Johanna Konta is relishing the chance to meet Carla Suarez Navarro in the third round of the Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open as the race to reach the WTA Finals hots up.

Konta is 10th in the Road to Singapore, with only the top eight qualifying, and now she has a golden chance to close the gap on the Spaniard, who is 273 points ahead in eighth position, after breezing past Shuai Zhang 6-3 6-3.

“I don’t think we actually ever played against each other on the tour yet. That’s always fun. Something different, something new,” she said.

Meanwhile British No 3 Naomi Broady advanced into the third round of the Tashkent Open in Uzbekistan after easing past Amra Sadikovic 6-4 7-5.
