Council top of the class for getting more children to walk to school

-

Fife Council has won an accolade for encouraging children to walk to school.

It was recognised at the Scottish Transport Awards for promoting active travel to 30 schools across Fife, using their WoW (Walk once a Week) scheme.

This has been delivered through match funding with Transport Scotland’s Smarter Choices Smarter Places programme.

Encouraging pupils to walk more plays a crucial role in increasing levels of physical activity, improving health and wellbeing and reducing congestion at the school gates.

Councillor Altany Craik said walking or cycling to school had increased by 10% in the last year.
