Man sentenced for train incident
A Fife man has been placed on the sex offenders register following incidents on a train journey between Edinburgh and Fife.
Kevin Smith, 54, of Mathieson Place, Dunfermline, appeared for sentencing at the town’s sheriff court.
Smith previously admitted engaging in a sex act in the presence of two women on May 8 last year.
The incident happened on a train journey between Edinburgh Waverley and Rosyth stations.
He also admitted that during the same journey he acted in a manner likely to cause fear and alarm by placing his hand on the thigh of another woman.
Defence solicitor Roshni Joshi said Smith had very little recollection of what happened, having been out drinking in the capital earlier in the day.
“He has a very limited memory of events after he went out socialising,” the solicitor added.
“He went out in Edinburgh and had consumed excess alcohol, which is very unusual for him.
“He accepts his behaviour was completely inappropriate.”
The incident was seen by other passengers and was subsequently reported to police, who went on to charge Smith.
Sheriff Craig McSherry imposed a community payback order with three years’ supervision.
He also ordered £250 compensation to be paid to the three women involved in the incidents.
