“Every so often, Craigie comes up with some ‘gems’ which really stir the memories of us oldies,” says a regular reader.
“The recent item on James Barrie Wallace, baker, on the Hawkhill, is the latest. His shop was on the north side of the Hawkhill, directly opposite the Princess Cinema, and a church mission (Magdalen’s?).
“To natives, the name James Barrie Wallace would probably not have been recognisable. The shop was always just known as Jim Wa’liss’s. It was demolished with the rest of the Hawkhill.”
