“The picture on Saturday was taken from waste ground on Springhill between Watson Street and Grove Street,” emails Allan Cosgrove of Meigle. “The tenement to the left is situated on Grove Street and the lane between the buildings is where Grove Street exited onto Broughty Ferry Road.
“The yard where the car is parked was occupied by the Souters who hired out cranes. One day during the 1960s, while extending the crane jib, it collapsed straight down the middle of Grove Street and miraculously missed parked vehicles and, more importantly, people. It was a lucky escape for all.”
