Spotlight on swimming

- with Caroline Lindsay

The fun to be had at a swimming pool is timeless, as these pictures prove.

Our first image dates from August 1956 and shows Lochee Baths, with the changing rooms round the side of the pool. The swimmers all seem to be children so perhaps it’s a school lesson. They’re certainly having fun anyway – apart from the sorry soul in the viewing gallery.

In the second photo, from May 1972, people of all ages take part in learning to swim week at the Dundee pool. Swimming hats are de rigueur and there are few fancy ones on display!

The third image was taken in July 1974. Children form an orderly queue for the diving board at the Dundee pool.

The photographer has captured someone mid-jump.

The last picture was taken in November 1988 and shows the start of the back crawl race in the TSB Masters event in Dundee.

Are you in any of these pictures or do you recognise anyone who is? Or perhaps you have memories of your own swimming experiences. Just email craigie@thecourier.co.uk
