Brother’s dignified quest

-

As Mike Haines mourned the death of his brother at the hands of terrorists, not many would have blamed him if he had called for revenge.

However, he chose to take another path and his dignified quest for peace over the past two years has won him admiration from all quarters.

His Global Acts of Unity campaign has taken him across the globe, from the Vatican to Afghanistan, and has seen him speak to more than 10,000 people.

He has visited schools throughout Britain and the reception he has received from young people has helped to convince him that he is taking a course his late brother would have approved of.

On the eve of his brother’s memorial service, Mr Haines took the opportunity to call on all communities and faiths to undertake a single act of unity “one simple gesture, one act, one moment, that draws people together”.
