Experienced Malpas could prove crucial in relegation fight: Foran
Inverness manager Richie Foran insists it was his call to bring Dundee United legend Maurice Malpas back to the Highland club.
Foran said the board had advised him to hire an experienced coach to help him mastermind a way out of their relegation troubles.
But he stressed it was his decision to call on Malpas, who has previously served as Terry Butcher’s assistant with Caley Thistle.
Foran’s team sit five points adrift of safety with five games to go and Foran has had to fight off rumours his job could be at risk if Inverness go down.
But the Irishman insists Malpas has his full trust and feels the former Tannadice defender’s years of experience could prove crucial as he plots a route to safety.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s derby clash with Ross County, Foran said: “The board recommended that I take someone in with me.
“It was to be someone with experience and knowledge of the Scottish game so I picked Maurice.
“I had a good think about who was around, who was out there and who I trust – and Maurice is the ideal candidate.
“He’s the perfect man to bring in with huge experience in the game, huge knowledge of the Scottish Premiership and of course an experienced defender in his day with over 50 caps.
“We’ve conceded too many goals and Maurice can help rectify that.
“I know Maurice, we’ve been friends for a long time. I trust him and that’s the main thing. You need to be able to trust your staff and the people around you.”
