St John’s Kirk carillionneur to represent UK at event in Spain

The carillionneur of St John’s Kirk in Perth is to represent the UK at a bell ringing event in Spain.

Dr Ian Cassells will perform at the Congresso Mundial de Carillinistas, which is being held in Barcelona on July 1 and 2.

The congress is held every three years in different countries around the world.

Unlike the Perth carrillion, the Spanish one is open to the air and thus has more bells.

Dr Cassells has chosen a selection of Scottish, English and Spanish tunes to showcase at the event, as well as some classical music and two pieces he has composed himself including a fanfare, La Magia de Catalunya, written for the occasion.
