Green energy record

The Courier & Advertiser (Perth and Perthshire Edition) - - NEWS -

Scotland generated a record amount of electricity from renewables in the first three months of 2017.

UK Government figures showed that in the period January to March, 6,882 gigawatt hours (GWh) of power was produced from sources such as wind, solar and hydro power – an increase of 13% on the same period in 2016.

Onshore wind was the largest source of green energy, producing 4,514 GWh, while hydro power produced another 1,641 GWh, 152 GWh came from offshore windfarms and 43 GWh from solar power.

Dr Sam Gardner, acting director of WWF Scotland, called the figures “fantastic news”.
