Cheese exports on the rise

British cheese exports were up 29% in the first three months of the year to almost £143 million, according to figures from AHDB.

The farm levy body said almost 40,000 tonnes of British cheese were exported around the world in the first quarter of 2017.

The bulk of sales were within Europe, with exports to the continent up 8% to 34,279 tonnes. Sales to Asia and Oceania region rose by 36% to 1,798 tonnes.
