Ahead of its time
A reunion lunch is planned at the Park Hotel, Montrose, on Saturday September 23, of the popular and lively Ladies Pastime Club which ran successfully in Montrose from 1984 until 1994. The Club met fortnightly on Wednesday mornings in Melville South Hall.
The aim of the club was to promote friendship among young women in the town, and to provide interesting and informative meetings, with a wide range of speakers. These included medical ethics, first aid, pet fostering, the Samaritans, antiques, cooking demonstrations, ecumenism, crafts, police, The Beano, and many more.
A crèche was provided for children, run by older ladies affectionately known as ‘Aunties’. It was innovative of its time, and the group also ran successful campaigns and fundraisers.
