Result could define season for both sides

- eric nicolson

This result should be a season defining one for St Johnstone.

And for Dundee, the big concern is that it will be the same for them.

With 12 points of a gap to the bottom of the Premiership we can safely say Saints won’t be going straight down. And, if history is reliable, they are probably only a win and a draw from making sure they aren’t in the play-off.

The Perth men have struggled for consistency this season for the first time in years but they have a performance like this in them when they really need it.

Tommy Wright sent out his most loyal servants and they did not let him down.

Everything that was good about Saints shone a light on everything that isn’t good about Dundee just now. Players were weak and players hid. That was in a match they all knew came before as daunting a run of fixtures a team struggling for form could get.

The good news? Dundee have two players to come back in who will make a big difference – Paul McGowan and Glen Kamara. We thought they were important to this team – quite how important only became evident in their absence on Saturday.

That’s two easy picks for Pittodrie at the weekend. It’s just the other nine Neil McCann has to worry about.
