Young hopes late goal is sign of change in Fifers’ fortunes

-

East Fife manager Darren Young is hoping the stroke of good fortune that his side benefited from at the weekend is a sign of things to come for the Bayview men.

The Fifers scored in injury time from a set-piece to defeat Airdrie 2-1 and build on their success over Albion Rovers in their previous outing.

Next up are Alloa away tonight.

Young said: “We have not had many breaks like that, so it was good to finally get one. It was great that two of the substitutes, Mark Lamont and Kyle Wilkie, combined for the goal as that will have given them an extra lift as well.

“That is two wins in a row and hopefully we are building a bit of momentum. That momentum will grow if we can win a game as tough as this.

“Alloa have had a strong start to 2018 and their recruitment in January is one of the main reasons behind that.

“Our first aim is to catch Stranraer and then look to get into the top four after that.

“Winning this one could put us above Stranraer and within six points of Alloa, and that would be a great start to moving up the way.”

Craig Thomson could return after a broken bone in his hand.

Mark Docherty remains out with a knee problem.
