Murray’s sights set on play-offs

-

Arbroath’s Scotland Commonwealth Games basketball hero Gareth Murray is determined to finish his season in style by helping Glasgow Rocks reach the British Basketball League Play-offs at the O2 Arena at the end of this month.

Murray was at his best for the Rocks in their final regular season game, top-scoring with 24 points and adding five rebounds as they defeated Worcester Wolves 90-75 before a crowd of 4,000 at the Emirates Arena.

The Rocks play Surrey Scorchers in the first leg of the play-off quarter-finals at Guildford tomorrow night, with the return at the Emirates in Glasgow on Sunday at 5pm.

“Coming back home everyone was really proud of us and showing us that,” said the 33-year-old Arbroath High FP.

“It gave us a little edge and spurred us on after playing so well at the Gold Coast.”

Meanwhile Perth Phoenix have again missed out in a bid to qualify for next season’s Scottish League Men’s First Division after losing 79-65 in a play-off decider against Edinburgh University.
