Long-service award for dry stone wall expert
Ian Dewar, a founding member of the the Dry Stone Walling Association (DSWA) and the founder of several of its Scottish branches, will be presented with a longservice award this weekend in recognition of his lifetime contribution to the craft.
Mr Dewar is already an honorary life member and has received numerous honours for his training and promotional work over the last 50 years.
He was the first chairman of Central Scotland branch from 1982 to 1985, then secretary for the next 13 years, and served as honorary president until 2010. At one stage the Central Scotland branch extended from Tayside to the west coast and membership was so high and the distances so great that in 1998, two branches were formed, with the border around Stirling.
Mr Dewar is renowned for mentoring many professional wallers and keeping in contact with them over the years.
