Stretch of road called ‘dangerous’ after man injured in major crash

Residents have claimed a stretch of Dundee road is “dangerous” after a 34-year-old man was rushed to hospital following a serious crash on Tuesday night.

The man was taken to Ninewells Hospital, where he is said to be in a serious but stable condition, after the 9.10pm collision with a Citroen C1 as he crossed Coupar Angus Road, near its junction with Landsdowne Gardens.

The two occupants of the car, a 23-year-old driver and his 25-year-old passenger, were not injured.

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses.

A large section of the road was cordoned off while police and ambulance services dealt with the aftermath.

Residents have said the area, near where the Park House Hotel once stood, is known to be “dangerous”.

David Cree said reversing out of his drive is often a perilous endeavour.

“There is a bit of a blind corner and cars seem to speed up about here so it can be dangerous getting on to the road.

“There’s a lot of people crossing the road because it’s near the multis and a bus stop so there is usually a lot going on.

“I didn’t really see what happened until after the police arrived, but I saw them with torches looking all over the road. I saw about four or five cars and about 10 officers on the road.”

Rachael Bowie, who also lives on the road, said: “You often see cars driving at quite a speed on this road.”

Sergeant William Strachan, Tayside Roads Policing Unit, said: “Our inquiries into the crash are continuing and we are appealing to anyone who saw the incident, particularly motorists who were in the area and who have dashcam footage, to get in touch.”
