Ankle rules Wood out of Lions
MARK Wood’s return to competitive action following an operation on his ankle has been delayed, with him having been withdrawn from the England Lions squad.
Wood was due to join the Lions for their one-day series against Sri Lanka A next month but he will now revert to the original plan of returning to action for the North-South series later in March.
Wood recently returned from England cricket’s Pace Programme training camp at Potchefstroom in South Africa, where he stepped up his return to bowling after surgery on his left ankle last autumn.
Having spoken to the Pace Programme coaches and medical staff, it has been agreed that the bowler would benefit from spending three more weeks training at home before travelling to Dubai for the North-South series.
There are no plans for Wood to be replaced in the Lions squad for the five-match series against Sri Lanka A, which begins on March 2.
