WHERE has this urge to shake up English cricket’s T20 scene come from? Over the past decade ticket sales across the country have been good and reaching Finals Day has become as big a quest as the search for the Holy Grail. Are the ECB unable to comprehend not taking a lead role?

Cricket Australia has done a brilliant job with the Big Bash League given the pressures of their giant, redeveloped stadiums. And given the sheer size of the country it makes perfect sense to have a city-based competition. The ECB clearly think the T20 Blast has been collecting dust for a while and this proposed revamp is a chance to entice Sky Sports and BT into a bidding war for TV rights.
