MARK Clarkson was the hero last weekend as his superb hat-trick helped Netherfield pummel rivals Chorley and take a giant stride towards the Northern Premier League title but there is no great secret to his success – simply hard work.

Clarkson took 5-21 in a remarkable spell to help the leaders skittle second-placed Chorley for just 77, eventually winning the match by seven wickets.

The seamer clean bowled opener Stuart Naden and No.3 Will Moulton in consecutive balls before completing the hat-trick by trapping Alexander Howarth LBW, and his captain Ben Barrow was thrilled to see perseverance reap its rewards.

The 26-year-old said: “We were looking forward to the game, first against second is a big match, it was very pleasing to see how we did, particularly with the ball.
