Broad has eyes on replicating McGrath

-

STUART Broad has been watching YouTube clips of Glenn McGrath in the hope of inspiring himself to Ashes victory.

McGrath was a constant thorn in England sides, taking 157 Ashes wickets across 30 matches, and was part of the side that trounced the Three Lions 5-0 Down Under in 2006/7.

Broad has had his own success against Australia and has taken 23 scalps in seven Tests Down Under. But he still wants to improve and guide England to glory.

Broad said: “In Australia you have to hit the pitch as hard as you possibly can.You look at McGrath and he did that consistently.

“I’ve been watching some YouTube videos of him bowling in Australia, visualising how to get wickets as a tall bowler. You have to have periods where you look to rough batsmen up a little bit, sure, but a lot of wickets fall from that fuller length.

“In the past, if we’ve made a mistake in Australia, it’s been to bowl too short, so you get cut and pulled off length. This time, I will be making a conscious effort to bring batsmen forward like we did last summer.”
