Co-founder Ac­ton leaves What­sApp for non-profit

One of the co-founders of mes­sag­ing app What­sApp, Brian Ac­ton, is step­ping down af­ter eight years with the group to start a non-profit foun­da­tion. The move comes three years af­ter Face­book bought What­sApp for $19bn (£14bn). Mr Ac­ton was in charge of engi­neer­ing for What­sApp and is thought to have been a key driver be­hind the group’s de­ci­sion to im­ple­ment end-to-end en­cryp­tion.
