Lufthansa swoops for €210m of Air Berlin
Lufthansa has signed a €210m (£187m) deal to buy a large part of insolvent Air Berlin, cementing its position as Germany’s most powerful airline. Lufthansa plans to use the assets to expand its low-cost arm, Eurowings. Air Berlin filed for insolvency on Aug 15, after struggling to turn a profit for the last decade. It has been kept afloat in recent weeks by a government loan.
