US Fed stays on course for De­cem­ber rate rise

The US Fed­eral Re­serve held in­ter­est rates steady last night and said strong job gains and house­hold spend­ing had kept the econ­omy on track. The state­ment re­flected lit­tle change in the cen­tral bank’s out­look, with in­fla­tion still near its 2pc tar­get and risks to the out­look “roughly bal­anced”. The Fed has raised rates three times this year and is set to do so again in De­cem­ber.
