Our occasional column in which Ross Clark helps a time-pressed celebrity find the house of their dreams. This week: Sienna Miller
Sienna Miller wants us to know she isn’t really a celebrity. “I hate that word,” she said recently. “I feel I am unwillingly part of a big celebrity culture that I have absolutely no respect for.” In fact, she has been trying so hard to avoid the celebrity culture that she has been driven to sign a deal promoting Tod’s, the Italian shoes-tohandbags fashion company, and put her name to the fashionable cause of global warming. “I’m a big supporter of carbon neutral,” she told reporters when promoting her cause. “It’s time to make some real changes. The smallest things such as having a shower instead of a bath and switching off your mobile phone charger can make a real difference and save a ton-load of carbon.” One change that Miller is making is moving home from her Marylebone flat. She doesn’t like anyone knowing where she lives: her friend Otis Ferry was recently cleared of criminal damage after removing the keys from a photographer’s car trying to prevent the paparazzi following her home and finding out where she lived.
But she is reported to be looking for a country property in that wellknown celebrity-free zone, the Cotswolds. To save her wearing down the heels of her Tod’s shoes, we have decided to do a bit of legwork for her and find her dream eco-home in Gloucestershire.
Willowbrook House, Turkdean
Five bedrooms, 8.75 acres. £2.75 million. Hamptons: 01993 824546 How Sienna would love this house, with a large party/ cinema room in which to entertain all her non-celebrity friends. Unfortunately, she can’t have it. With its fourdoor Aga and 4,700 square feet of rambling space, it has achieved an energy rating of just 19 out of 120. Never mind: there are still plenty of other properties in the Cotswolds which will help Sienna save her ton of carbon.
Whitmore House, Chastleton Court, Bourton-on-theWater
Four bedrooms. £335,000 Savills: 01865 269010 This brand new house certainly ticks all Sienna’s boxes. Any eco-warrior would be pleased with its energy efficiency. The main bedroom has a super little ensuite bathroom with shower, so no need for a bath. And as part of a smart, friendly little development, Sienna won’t be made to feel like a celebrity.
Tregoney, Guiting Power
One bedroom. £225,000 Hayman-Joyce: 01608 651188 Sienna could certainly slash her carbon emissions with this bijou cottage. It is heated by an open fire which she can fuel with lovely, local, carbonneutral wood. With a post office and village stores on the doorstep, Sienna will be able to do all her shopping in the village and sell her car. And having just the one bedroom will make it that much more tricky for future boyfriends to do a Jude Law with the nanny.
