NICOLE KIDMAN (1997) BY ANNIE LEIBOVITZ

The Daily Telegraph - Review - - CONTENTS -

In 1997, when Nicole Kidman was in England shooting Eyes Wide Shut, Annie Leibovitz brought her to Charleston, the Sussex farmhouse that once belonged to Bloomsbury Group artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, where she photographed Kidman sitting on Bell’s bed, wearing nothing but a black turtleneck jumper. “Kubrick had asked her to stay out of the sun for a year or something before they started filming, and her skin was very white,” recalls Leibovitz, in a new, updated edition of her partly autobiographical, partly educational book, At Work. “Everything that you would think makes her a movie star was stripped away, and she still held the picture... There’s not a bad way to photograph her.”
