Rugby fans are renowned for their prodi­gious beer in­take and they are ex­pected to sink over 25 mil­lion ex­tra pints in pubs dur­ing the six weeks of the World Cup. The Bri­tish Beer & Pub As­so­ci­a­tion be­lieves the to­tal im­pact on turnover for pubs, in beer sales alone, will be around £86 mil­lion. The com­pe­ti­tion is also ex­pected to give Bri­tish tourism a boost. Around half a mil­lion visi­tors are ex­pected to visit the UK for the event, spend­ing an es­ti­mated £869 mil­lion dur­ing their trip. The wider ben­e­fit to the econ­omy from host­ing the World Cup is ex­pected to be £2.2 bil­lion.
