Rugby fans are renowned for their prodigious beer intake and they are expected to sink over 25 million extra pints in pubs during the six weeks of the World Cup. The British Beer & Pub Association believes the total impact on turnover for pubs, in beer sales alone, will be around £86 million. The competition is also expected to give British tourism a boost. Around half a million visitors are expected to visit the UK for the event, spending an estimated £869 million during their trip. The wider benefit to the economy from hosting the World Cup is expected to be £2.2 billion.
