Face the di­rec­tion you con­sider most sig­nif­i­cant – maybe you can see more that way, or it’s where you’ve come from.

Set your map, us­ing a com­pass.

Put the in­for­ma­tion you can see on the ground on to the map, not the other way around. Start with con­tours, al­ways con­tours.
