Elec­tric duo in Car of the Year

The short­list for the 2014 Euro­pean Car of the Year award has been an­nounced, writes An­drew English.

In al­pha­bet­i­cal or­der, the cars that have been cho­sen are: BMW i3, Citroën C4 Pi­casso, Mazda3, Mercedes S-Class, Peu­geot 308, Skoda Oc­tavia and Tesla Model S (right). That’s two bat­tery­elec­tric cars in the fi­nal seven (which are cho­sen from a list of 30 el­i­gi­ble ve­hi­cles).

The cars will be ex­haus­tively tested by each of the 58 judges from 22 Euro­pean coun­tries (in­clud­ing yours truly) and the win­ner will be an­nounced on the eve of the Geneva mo­tor show on March 3. Re­becca Jack­son demon­strates in our lat­est video (right).
