Viljoen chalks up ca­reer-best 15 wick­ets in Der­byshire vic­tory

A su­perb dis­play of fast bowl­ing by Har­dus Viljoen ended Sus­sex’s pro­mo­tion hopes from Di­vi­sion Two and in­spired Der­byshire to only their sec­ond County Cham­pi­onship win of the sea­son. The South African took the first eight wick­ets in the sec­ond in­nings as Der­byshire recorded a 45-run win at Hove. Viljoen fol­lowed up his seven wick­ets in the first in­nings by tak­ing eight for 90 as he fin­ished the match with a ca­reer-best 15 for 170.

Worces­ter­shire suc­cess­fully chased 132 to beat Le­ices­ter­shire by six wick­ets to move to the brink of pro­mo­tion. Northamp­ton-shire kept them­selves in the pro­mo­tion chase with a seven-wicket win over Glam­or­gan.

War­wick­shire, hav­ing been beaten by Es­sex on Thurs­day, had their rel­e­ga­tion from Di­vi­sion One con­firmed yes­ter­day af­ter the vic­tory for Som­er­set against Lan­cashire and draws for York­shire (v Sur­rey) and Mid­dle­sex (v Hamp­shire).
